New pattern: Cable and Lace Wrist Warmers
Keep your hands cosy with a pair of knitted wrist warmers – pattern available on LoveCrafts
This new design came about because I work from home most of the time and it was cold in my office. I needed something to keep my hands warm while still allowing me to type. I used to have a pair of simple ribbed wrist warmers but I lost them.
So over Christmas I designed and knitted a new pair, using a combination of cable and lace stitches. My hands are now toasty warm in my cold office.
I’ve written the pattern up and you can download it from my LoveCrafts page. The pattern includes both written instructions and charts. I’ve also given instructions for left and right hands. It’s possible to knit one ‘hand’ twice and turn one of them upside down, but there will be some subtle differences. This might not bother many people. But it did bother me.
Knitting the left hand first, there’s a final twist in the cable at the top; there’s no twist at the beginning of the cable. If you knit this hand twice, then the right-hand version will have the twist at the bottom. The cables also cross in different directions.
By knitting the right hand backwards, rather than turning the left-hand one upside down, these differences disappear and you have two perfectly symmetrical wrist warmers. Whether or not that matters is up to you.
Whichever you choose, this is a very quick pattern and an easy introduction to both cabling and lace knitting. If you suffer from cold hands, a pair of these wrist warmers will help keep you warm. They also make a great little gift.
